Lisa and David had always had a strong relationship. They trusted each other, even to the point of answering each other’s phones when busy. But one day, while David was in the shower, Lisa spotted a suspicious text message on his phone. Her heart sank as she read the words, “Please don’t tell Lisa yet. We’ll do it together.” She was convinced that David was cheating on her.

Devastated, Lisa struggled to hold herself together. As she sat on the bed, she heard David humming a song in the shower. They had been together since high school, the only people they had ever dated. This betrayal was unimaginable.

Unable to bear the uncertainty, Lisa decided to confront David. She told him she was going to bed early but that he should finish watching the movie they had started. As soon as he left the room, Lisa seized the opportunity to snoop through his phone. To her relief, she found no secret meetings or romantic messages. Instead, they were talking about her—her work and what she enjoyed doing in her free time.

Taking a bold step, Lisa sent a message from David’s phone, inviting the woman he was texting to come over the next day when Lisa would be at work. The next day, as Lisa struggled to focus on her work, the doorbell rang at exactly 2 p.m. Her heart raced as she opened the door and saw a familiar but unfamiliar face—a woman named Gloria.

“Are you Lisa?” Gloria asked. “I’m your mother.”

Lisa, panic-stricken, couldn’t understand how her husband could cheat on her with an older woman, let alone one she thought was her biological mother.

“I’m your mother, Lisa,” Gloria said, trying to calm her down. Lisa had known she was adopted but had only seen her mother in an old photo when she was young.

Over hot chocolate and toast, Lisa pleaded with Gloria to tell her everything. Gloria hesitatingly shared the heartbreaking details of how she was forced to give Lisa up for adoption at just fifteen years old. Lisa’s grandfather was concerned about the family’s reputation, and so, in the middle of the night, he took her to a hospital and left her there when she was just four days old. The only memento left with Lisa was a photo with the words “Gloria Manson, 1987” written on the back.

As they talked, David arrived home and saw Lisa and Gloria together.

“Oh honey,” David said, “I didn’t know how to tell you. Gloria contacted me months ago, and I’ve been helping her reconnect with you.”

Gloria explained that she had asked David not to tell Lisa until she felt ready. She needed to gather herself and prepare for the emotional meeting. But at the last moment, David almost shared the truth with Lisa.

“Why did you both wait so long?” Lisa asked, trying to make sense of it all.

“I was afraid, Lisa,” Gloria admitted. “How do you tell your child that you were barely a teenager when you had her and that her grandfather took her away?”

Lisa then revealed that she had seen the photo but didn’t know what to do with the information.

Gloria confessed, “I’ve watched you from a distance. My father eventually provided me with some details about you, and through the hospital, I discovered who you had become.”

Moved by her mother’s vulnerability, Lisa felt her anger dissipate. She had always longed for her biological mother to be a part of her life. Lisa embraced both her mother and her husband, realizing that their actions came from a place of love and a desire to make things right.

This unexpected reunion brought closure and a new beginning for Lisa, David, and Gloria.
