Students Learn A Hard Lesson When They Take A Knee During The Anthem | LOLitopia

Taking a knee during the national anthem used to be a common sight among football players. It started as a form of protest and gained popularity at one point. Even high school football players joined in on the act, with four players from one team taking a knee in 2017. However, their actions did not sit well with everyone.

During a game at Monroe High School in New Jersey, referee Ernie Lunardelli made his stance clear. He had informed the game officials beforehand that if any players knelt during the national anthem, he would walk off the field. Lunardelli believed that such actions disrespected the country, the flag, and the armed forces.

Lunardelli reflected on his decision, stating, “What they’re protesting has nothing to do with the national anthem, and I’m against it. So, I decided to protest them kneeling, and that’s what I did.” He firmly stood by his beliefs, highlighting that the players’ protest was not related to the anthem itself.

Reports suggest that Lunardelli was not the most peaceful in his departure from the field. The coach claims he had to be pulled off, whereas Lunardelli insists that he walked off on his own accord. Interestingly, Lunardelli’s son was also officiating at the game, and he chose to support his father by leaving the field as well.

While Lunardelli’s actions garnered attention, some concerns arose due to a racist comment found on their Facebook page. Lunardelli claimed that he was hacked and denied any involvement in the offensive post. Nevertheless, both Lunardelli and his son ended up resigning.

This incident highlights the divide in opinions regarding kneeling during the anthem. It serves as a reminder that even in the world of sports, where camaraderie and competition usually reign, issues and debates can arise that spark strong emotions and force individuals to take a stand.
