Welcome to Dunkin’ Donuts, a coffee shop and bakery that has been satisfying caffeine cravings for locals across the United States for years. Just like Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts has been expanding its presence and becoming a familiar sight on every street corner. In fact, you’ll often find multiple locations within close proximity in New England.

However, we have some news. Dunkin’ recently made the decision to close 450 of its stores located within Speedway gas stations along the east coast. This means that your favorite spot for grabbing a donut or a cup of coffee while refueling may not be there anymore. But don’t worry, we have plans to ensure you can still enjoy our signature offerings.

The Dunkin’ branches situated within gas stations have only contributed a small portion of our revenue, accounting for less than 0.5 percent of our domestic sales in 2019. In light of this, we have decided to close these locations and redirect our resources into more profitable outlets.

Kate Japson, our chief financial officer, explained that by discontinuing these sites, with minimal financial repercussions, we can position ourselves better to serve these areas in the future. We plan to open new Dunkin’ NextGen restaurants with expanded menus that will provide an even better dining experience.

We currently operate a total of 9,600 locations across our chain, so there are still plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy our coffee and refuel your vehicle. We understand that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has brought uncertainties and challenges, but we remain committed to enhancing your experience.

As store closures and economic uncertainties impact consumer behavior, we know that people are cutting back on non-essential expenses like coffee. However, we want you to know that we are here for you. We offer various avenues such as drive-thru locations, mobile ordering, and delivery partnerships with platforms like GrubHub to ensure that you can still enjoy our products.

Dave Hoffman, our CEO, highlighted our commitment to being there for our customers during these challenging times. For over 70 years, Dunkin’ has been an integral part of the communities we serve, keeping America running and taking care of our guests. We understand that the current situation limits opportunities to venture outside, but we are dedicated to providing comfort and support when you need it the most.

So, even though some stores are closing, Dunkin’ Donuts remains committed to serving you. Stay safe, and remember, we’re always here for your coffee needs.
