It is heartbreaking to hear stories about animals being mistreated and abandoned. Thankfully, there are heroes among us who are willing to step up and make a difference. One such hero is Bret Winingar, along with his son Zach.

While enjoying a motorcycle ride on the back roads of Little Rock, Arkansas, Bret and Zach stumbled upon an old dog carrier. Curiosity got the best of them, and they decided to take a closer look. What they found inside shocked and saddened them deeply – a severely malnourished dog.

The carrier was in terrible condition, covered in feces, and the dog had even chewed a hole in it, trying to free herself. Bret and Zach couldn’t just leave the poor creature there. They left momentarily but returned with dog food and water in their car.

Together, they decided to name her Charlie Bravo. As they headed home, Charlie Bravo showed her gratitude for her rescuers even before reaching her new abode. One of the first things Bret and Zach did was trim Charlie Bravo’s claws. They had grown painfully long during her time in the cage, hindering her ability to walk.

Next on the list was a much-needed bath. Afterwards, Charlie Bravo was taken to the vet for a thorough check-up. The vet estimated her age to be around eight months. Based on her wounds, it seemed she had been confined in the carrier for a significant amount of time.

News of Charlie Bravo’s rescue quickly spread on Facebook. People from all over showered Bret and Zach with support and donations to cover Charlie’s veterinary expenses. Grateful for the abundance of generosity, Bret and his family decided to donate the excess funds to various animal charities. They also established a new fund named “Charlie’s Angels” to aid other rescued animals in need.

Interestingly, Bret hadn’t initially planned on keeping Charlie Bravo. However, after their incredible journey and bond formed through her rescue, he couldn’t bear the thought of parting with her. In fact, Bret and his family have since adopted three more rescued dogs.
