Every baby is unique and beautiful in their own way. Meet Angelica, who was born in 2018, and captured the hearts of her delighted parents and siblings. Despite her already stunning features, Angelica also has a heart-shaped port wine stain birthmark. Unfortunately, not everyone recognized the beauty and significance of her unique mark.
While Angelica’s family fully accepts and loves her, there are some insensitive individuals who feel entitled to criticize her appearance. One hurtful comment suggested that Angelica’s face had been “grilled.” It’s heartbreaking to hear that she has even been called “hideous” and a “defect.” Such comments deeply affected the family, making their challenges even more difficult to bear.
However, Angelica’s family is determined to rise above the negativity. They have encouraged her to embrace herself just the way she is, regardless of what others might say. In an effort to uplift Angelica’s spirits, her mother, Marianna Bowering, painted her daughter’s face to resemble the birthmark. The idea came from a vascular birthmark awareness day, where people were encouraged to paint hearts on their cheeks. Marianna took it a step further and beautifully recreated Angelica’s port wine stain.
Many well-meaning individuals have suggested that Angelica’s birthmark will eventually fade or that she could cover it with makeup as she grows older. However, these remarks only made Marianna feel worse, as she worried if Angelica would be forced to hide her natural beauty instead of embracing it. It serves as a reminder that society often imposes standards on how people should look.
Angelica’s loved ones have continually urged her to celebrate her unique features. Sometimes, Marianna even puts glitter on her daughter’s port wine stain to make it shimmer. While Angelica’s birthmark may be visible, it is important to note that she is perfectly healthy. Routine check-ups, especially for her eyes due to the potential risk of glaucoma, are the only requirements.
