You may or may not have heard of William Kyle Carpenter, but one thing is for certain – he is a certified American hero. At just 21 years old, Kyle served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marines and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.

During a fierce firefight, a grenade landed perilously close to Kyle and one of his fellow Marines. Without hesitating for even a moment, Kyle made a split-second decision that would not only demonstrate his indomitable strength but also forever alter the course of his life.

In an act of incredible bravery, Kyle leapt into action, throwing himself onto the grenade to shield his comrade from the imminent danger. His selfless sacrifice exemplified the true spirit of heroism. Kyle willingly put his own life on the line to ensure the safety of his fellow Marine.

Unfortunately, such an act of heroism did not come without a heavy price. The ensuing explosion caused devastating injuries to Kyle. Shrapnel tore through his body, shattering the bones in his face and skull. He lost part of his jaw, suffered a collapsed lung, and was even pronounced “P.E.A” (patient expired on arrival) upon his return to Camp Bastion.

Facing a long and arduous road to recovery, Kyle underwent an astonishing forty surgeries over the next two years. Despite the immense physical and emotional toll, his resilience and unwavering determination shone through. In recognition of his bravery, Kyle was awarded the Purple Heart and bestowed the prestigious Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama.

Today, Kyle has retired from his military service and is channeling his incredible strength and determination towards pursuing a degree from the University of South Carolina. His unwavering spirit continues to inspire countless individuals around the world.
