Imagine sailing through the vastness of the Arctic and being greeted by a breathtaking sight – over 200 polar bears gathered together, resembling a group of grazing sheep. This incredible spectacle recently unfolded on Wrangel Island, a remote part of the Arctic, leaving both amazed tourists and brave researchers in awe.

The mesmerizing scene was witnessed from the Akademik Shokalskiy, a peaceful vessel exploring the edges of this Russian-controlled island nestled in the Arctic Ocean. The bears had congregated around the remains of a giant whale that had washed ashore, releasing a powerful scent into the air.

These majestic creatures, known as giants of the icy and tundra landscapes, arrived at the location on or before September 19th. They stayed until they had completely devoured the remains of the whale, which lasted for one or two days. This stunning gathering left a lasting impression on Captain Rodney Russ, the respected leader of the expedition. He described it as an unforgettable sight that will forever be etched in their minds.

According to The Siberian Times, which chronicles events in the region, it is estimated that there are around 230 bears in Wrangel Island – a population comparable to a flock of grazing sheep.
