Man builds new home for homeless woman

Not many people take the time to understand the journey of a homeless person, the struggles they face, and the hardships that led them to live alone on the streets. However, in Los Angeles, there is a hero who went above and beyond to help a homeless woman in need.

Meet Irene “Smokie” McGee, a 60-year-old woman who has been living on the streets of south Los Angeles for the past ten years after losing her home. Irene slept on the ground at night and collected recycling during the day to sell for food. Her story caught the attention of a compassionate resident named Elvis Summers, who decided to take matters into his own hands.

Elvis couldn’t bear to see Irene sleeping on the streets every night, so he made a heartfelt decision to build her a home. With $500 worth of wood he purchased, some siding and roofing donated by a local business, and his own building abilities, Elvis constructed a safe and secure 3.5 ft by 8 ft house for Irene.

“I just wanted to create a space where Irene could feel warm and comfortable,” Elvis explained. Incredibly, it only took him five days to complete the task. The moment Irene stepped into her new home, she felt a sense of relief and relaxation like she hadn’t experienced in years. She even slept half the day because she felt so at ease.

Elvis’s act of kindness has inspired many, including us, to help those who are less fortunate than us. It serves as a reminder that a small gesture of compassion can make a huge difference in someone’s life. Let’s spread the word about this heartwarming story and inspire others to lend a hand to those in need.
