Do you remember the funny-looking tool in the photo above? It may seem strange to think that our children have no idea what a walkman or a slinky is, or any of the other objects that were popular decades ago. But this object definitely falls into that category and might bring back memories from many years ago.

Believe it or not, this tool is actually an important sewing tool called a needle threader. It may look strange now, but back in the day, it was an essential tool for sewing. These needle threaders were made of a round metal piece attached to a diamond-shaped wire. Many of them were made from tin and even had a stamp of the Queen’s head on the top.

What’s interesting is that this type of needle threader dates all the way back to the Victorian era. They were inexpensive to make, easy to use, and even paid homage to the Queen as an extra bonus. As time went on, different types of needle threaders started to appear, and in 1978, Juki became the first company to incorporate an automatic needle threader into a sewing machine.

If you search hard enough, you can still find these vintage needle threaders today, and they are still as effective as ever. While modern needle threaders also exist, there’s something special about using a sewing tool that your grandmother and even your grandmother’s grandmother may have used. It’s a little piece of history that brings a touch of nostalgia to your sewing projects.
