Riona

It’s truly heartbreaking how cruel some people can be, especially when it comes to innocent puppies. A sweet and resilient pup named Riona experienced unimaginable pain and suffering after being brutally set on fire by her owner last year. But after a long and difficult journey to recovery, Riona is finally heading to her new forever home.

Last June, the residents of Nutbush, Tennessee witnessed a horrifying sight. Riona, a pitbull mix, was seen running down the street, engulfed in flames. The smell of gasoline filled the air, leaving no doubt that this was a deliberate act of cruelty.

Witnesses later confirmed that Riona had been doused in gasoline by heartless individuals before being set on fire. One neighbor even captured the heartbreaking footage of her running in a ball of flames. These acts of violence are beyond comprehension.

Riona suffered severe burns all over her body. Her ear was burnt off, but thankfully, her left eye was saved thanks to prompt medical intervention. She was taken in by Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, where she received extensive medical treatment at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists. Her skin was protected with daily full-body wraps, and she underwent multiple skin grafts to address the fourth-degree burns.

A TikTok video featuring Riona’s story went viral, attracting millions of views and garnering sympathy from people all around the world. Despite the trauma she had endured, Riona maintained a resilient and loving spirit throughout her recovery. Her tail continued to wag, and her affection for everyone she encountered never wavered.

“She’s just always wagging her tail,” said Mallory Mclemore of Bluff City Veterinary Specialists. “That’s what makes it even worse. To think that someone could do something so cruel to such a sweet soul who loves everybody.”

Months passed, and slowly but surely, Riona’s condition improved. She became a symbol of hope and resilience, inspiring countless individuals. Supporters from all walks of life sent in donations and gifts to aid in her recovery.

In the meantime, justice was being sought for Riona. Quishon Brown, a 43-year-old man, was arrested for his alleged involvement in setting Riona on fire. He faced charges of misdemeanor assault, aggravated cruelty to animals, and setting fire to personal property. The case is currently awaiting trial.

Riona’s harrowing story also had a positive impact on animal welfare legislation. As a result, a new animal cruelty bill was passed in Tennessee, thanks in part to the awareness Riona’s story raised.

And now, almost one year after that horrific incident, there is a heartwarming update to Riona’s story. Tails of Hope announced that they would embark on a 10-hour road trip to bring Riona to her new forever home.

“Our goal was to find her a loving and forever home, and that’s exactly what we did,” said Ginger Natoli, the founder of Tails of Hope. “Riona will have other dogs to play with, children to bring her joy, a spacious yard to explore, and a family with medical experience who understands her needs.”

This is not the end of Riona’s story; in fact, it’s just the beginning. Tails of Hope expressed their gratitude to everyone who played a part in this miraculous journey. Riona has truly proved herself to be a warrior, and her resilience will continue to inspire others.

While we celebrate Riona’s newfound happiness, let’s also remember that the work of animal rescues is ongoing. Just as Riona finds her forever home, another rescue pet in need awaits their chance at a better life. Together, let’s continue to spread awareness and lend a helping hand to these innocent creatures who rely on our compassion.
