Aubrey Headdon, a student from Rochelle Township High School, wanted something special for her prom dress. She was inspired by the 25 fallen Marines from her community in Illinois who lost their lives between 2010 and 2011. Aubrey designed a beautiful and patriotic dress to honor their memory.

The dress, a stunning blue halter neck gown, features red and white ribbons flowing throughout it, resembling an American flag. Aubrey proudly wore this unique design on her big night, and it brought tears to everyone’s eyes.

Aubrey’s dress is not only a tribute to the fallen Marines but also a representation of the American flag. The blue base color of the dress is complemented by red and white ribbons flowing elegantly. This combination creates a remarkable visual resemblance to the American flag.

The uniqueness of Aubrey’s dress design is matched only by the selfless act of using her prom night to honor fallen soldiers. Her tribute serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by so many in our country. Aubrey is an exceptional individual representing the gratitude we feel for our heroes.

“I wanted to wear this tribute dress to my senior prom so that the memories of the guys who fell in Afghanistan for our right to live how we do and do what we do every day is carried on,” Aubrey explained. Her dress has become a viral sensation, touching the hearts of many.

Aubrey’s inspiration came from hearing the heart-wrenching story of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, based in Camp Pendleton, California. The mother of one of the fallen Marines, Alec Catherwood, shared the story with Aubrey. Alec’s death deeply affected her, and she felt compelled to do something to remember him and his comrades.

Aubrey, a 19-year-old senior, took matters into her own hands. She sewed red and white ribbons in the shape of the American flag onto a blue dress, incorporating a halter neckline to match the Marines’ uniform color. This attention to detail showcases Aubrey’s dedication to honoring their memory.

As Aubrey plans to pursue a career in fashion and attend college next year, she hopes to continue designing special occasion dresses like her prom dress tribute. Her dreams include starting her own line of clothing and using her talents to create more garments with heartfelt meanings.

In addition to her dress, Aubrey also created a poster to further pay tribute to the fallen Marines and educate others about their lives. She believes that their lives and memories should never fade away but continue to be honored.

The 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, also known as 3/5 or Darkhorse, suffered incredibly high casualties. In the last ten years, no other Marine unit has experienced higher losses than Darkhorse.

Aubrey’s prom dress has become a symbol of remembrance, patriotism, and admiration. Her act of selflessness has captured the hearts of many, reminding us of the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers. Aubrey Headon is a true inspiration, and we are grateful for all she represents.
