After a terrifying car accident, 97-year-old Dick Van Dyke speaks out, saying, “I’m sore all over.” -

Dick Van Dyke, the beloved 97-year-old Hollywood star, recently shared his harrowing experience after being involved in a single-car accident in Malibu, California. The incident occurred on March 15, when the actor’s car lost control in the rain and collided with a gate in an exclusive neighborhood.

In his first public appearance since the collision, Van Dyke spoke to reporters on March 25, revealing that he was “sore all over” after what he described as a “face-plant into the steering wheel.” Despite needing two stitches for a lip laceration, the actor maintained a cheerful attitude when discussing the terrifying incident.

Joking about his age, Van Dyke exclaimed, “I’m 97. All my friends are dead.” He expressed gratitude for his wife, Arlene Silver, 51, for taking care of him during his recovery and acknowledged that without her support, the outcome could have been far worse.

Concerned for his safety, it has been reported that Van Dyke’s wife has taken away his car keys. Neighbors may no longer spot the beloved actor behind the wheel, as an unnamed insider revealed, “Dick has reached the point where he needs to be taken off the road—for his safety and the safety of others.” Arlene is taking precautions to ensure her husband’s well-being.

This incident is not the first time Dick Van Dyke has faced a life-threatening situation. In 2013, he was saved from his flaming Jaguar on a Los Angeles freeway by a bystander named Jason Pennington. Jason noticed the elderly actor attempting to escape from the burning car and came to his rescue just in time.

Only a month before the accident, Van Dyke surprised audiences with an appearance on the US version of “The Masked Singer.” His heartfelt performance of Frank Sinatra’s “When You’re Smiling” moved judge Nicole Scherzinger to tears. The actor also delighted the audience with a special rendition of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

Dick Van Dyke’s resilience and positive attitude continue to inspire us all. Despite the challenges he has faced, he remains grateful for every day and the support of his loved ones.
