The alarm was raised when Charlotte failed to return after 15 minutes, prompting her parents and fellow campers to search for her. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find her and had to involve the police. The search effort for Charlotte involved over 100 personnel and 75 law enforcement officials, including the use of dogs, drones, boats, and underwater rescue teams. It was a comprehensive operation aimed at finding her as quickly as possible.

A Twist in the Case

After two anxious days, Charlotte’s parents received a shocking ransom note at their home. The note revealed details about their daughter’s abduction, and the abductor had even driven to their property to deliver the note personally. The police immediately tested the ransom note for fingerprints and found a match. The suspect was identified as Craig Nelson Ross Jr., a 47-year-old man with a previous criminal record. Authorities located Ross in a camper van behind his mother’s residence, and with the help of SWAT teams, they were able to apprehend him swiftly. Inside the camper, they discovered Charlotte hiding in a cabinet, unharmed and in good health.

A Joyous Reunion

The rescue team successfully brought Charlotte to safety, reuniting her with her relieved parents at a nearby hospital. Governor Kathy Hochul praised the incredible efforts of law enforcement, highlighting the determination and resourcefulness they displayed throughout the operation. “Thank God Charlotte was found safe and well. I can’t imagine what her family must have been going through!” exclaimed a relieved community member.
