The fragility of life is truly what makes it special, but it brings little comfort to those who have lost someone they deeply love. Our hearts go out to the grieving family of four siblings who tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision with an alleged drunk driver.

The devastating incident occurred while the Gonzalez family was out holiday shopping in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, on Saturday, December 16. Daniel Gonzalez, 26, Fabian Gonzalez, 23, Lilian Gonzalez, 14, and Daniela Gonzalez, 9, were all taken from us too soon.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, the driver responsible for this horrific accident was 47-year-old Scott Farmer, who was driving his pickup truck the wrong way on the highway while intoxicated. Farmer collided with the SUV carrying the Gonzalez siblings, resulting in three of them losing their lives at the scene, and the fourth passing away later at the hospital.

On Monday, December 18, Farmer appeared in court and is facing four counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, as well as operating with a revoked license causing death. Despite his actions, the step-father of the four siblings, Kurt Schilling, expressed disappointment with the bail set at $750,000.

“How can I explain to my wife that all our children are gone?” lamented Schilling. The pain of losing their children is immeasurable. Although they have the support of their faith, family, friends, church family, and good people around them, it’s devastating to realize they won’t have a future with their children and grandchildren.

In an effort to support the Gonzalez family during this difficult time, two GoFundMe pages have been set up. One has already gathered almost $37,000 of its $40,000 goal, and the other has raised over $92,000.

Our hearts bleed for the Gonzalez family, and we ask that you join us in sending prayers and love their way.
