Stephen Colbert Cancels ‘Late Show’ For One Week Due to Ruptured Appendix

After the Thanksgiving break, everyone’s favorite late-night host, Stephen Colbert, had to unexpectedly cancel a whole week of episodes for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” The reason? He underwent surgery for a ruptured appendix.

Colbert himself shared the news on the show’s official Threads page on Monday, expressing his regret for having to cancel the shows. In his typical humorous style, he joked, “I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix.”

Colbert took the opportunity to express his gratitude to his doctors for their excellent care and to his family for their support during this time. He even playfully mentioned that any future messages for his appendix should be directed to his pancreas.

This year has been a bit bumpy for “The Late Show,” with several interruptions. It was off the air for five months during the Writers Guild of America Strike, which ended in late September. During that period, Colbert, along with other late-night hosts such as Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and John Oliver, hosted a podcast and donated the proceeds to their out-of-work staff members.

“The Late Show” made a comeback in early October, but unfortunately, Colbert had to host one episode from home after testing positive for COVID. As a precautionary measure, the rest of the week’s shows had to be canceled.

The canceled shows for this eventful week were set to feature some exciting guests. Tuesday’s show would have had Jennifer Garner and Baz Luhrmann, with John Scofield sitting in with Louis Cato and the Late Show Band. Wednesday’s episode was all set for a performance by former “Late Show” band leader John Batiste, while Patrick Stewart was scheduled to be the featured guest. Thursday’s show promised appearances by the legendary Barbra Streisand and the talented Kelsey Grammer.

We wish Stephen Colbert a speedy recovery and look forward to his return. In the meantime, let’s send him some positive vibes and get ready for more laughter-filled nights on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” Stay tuned!
